Someone that I know who lives in our region of the state of PA had a concern regarding a claim they had filed for disability. She was denied her claim originally and has been awaiting a hearing for her appeal. She tried to get an answer as to the status of her claim and when she might have a hearing, but with no success so she reached out to me for assistance. So, with God's help I reached out to Commissioner Michael Astrue of the SSA, Governor Tom Corbett and his staff, the state director of the Disability Determinations Office for PA, as well as the director of the local office where the disability claims decisions are made for our region.
I am pleased to report that the response of our government officials on her behalf was prompt, professional and helpful. She now has someone at the SSA office working with her personally to assist her with her claim so she can either get what is called an "on the record" decision because she has compelling new medical information in regards to her disability claim or she will have a hearing concerning her claim in the future. What is most important is that she now knows that someone is working with her to help her get a determination concerning her claim. See SSA Information about the "Levels of Appeal" for a disability claim.
I give thanks to God for Commissioner Astrue at the SSA, who I know from past experiences is a very good and caring and dedicated civil servant; Governor Tom Corbett and his staff, (again, all very caring and dedicated government officials who want to serve the people who elected them), J. Weisberg at the state DDS office, (he always has been and is awesome in his response), and T Marion, (a new director that I have not had the pleasure of communicating with until now), at the local claims office for their prompt response to a PA citizen who is in need.
We are truly a most blessed people to have the good people we do have serving us and our needs as citizens.
Keeping the hope alive,
Harold
