The Senior Source - Nursing Home Ombudsman Program In The State Of Texas

"The Nursing Home Ombudsman Program advocates for quality care and quality of life in nursing homes and assisted living facilities. Ombudsmen identify, investigate and resolve complaints by or on behalf of facility residents. Volunteer and staff ombudsmen serve as independent, unbiased advocates for residents and work with all persons involved to reach acceptable solutions to problems. Ombudsmen work closely with the Texas Department of Aging and Disability Services, the government agency that regulates nursing homes. State and federal laws authorize the Nursing Home Ombudsman Program."

A consumer contacted me regarding the fact that a loved one was going to be placed in a nursing home in the state of Texas and they wanted to know whether there had been any complaints filed against the particular nursing home their loved one was entering.

I contacted The Senior Source and left a voice mail for S. S. who works for the agency. Within a very short period of time I received an email response from her with the appropriate person to contact for the answer to the consumer's question.

Mike Robbins - focus on the good stuff book

I received a copy of Mike Robbins book, focus on the good stuff, and I loved it. In his book Mike addresses the transforming power of appreciation.

Let's be real for a moment here and look at life as it really is for the most part - it is hard, filed with challenges and pain...and many people are not filled with gratitude or appreciation. The do not live in the gratitude attitude.

As Mike refers to in his book appreciation for such things as our glorious creation - a sunrise or sunset, our spouses or significant others, our families, our jobs or ourselves is sorely lacking in our society today. And, it is much needed and when appreciation and gratitude are appropriately expressed people love it. It makes them feel good, positive, loved, happy and appreciated...and we ALL need that.

So, today what can you be thankful for? Or who can you express appreciation to? Once you have the answer to that question - get to it and express your gratitude or appreciation. You will feel AWESOME for doing it.

Mike's book, focus on the good stuff as well as his other book, be yourself - everyone else is already taken are two books that I highly recommend and are a must read!

Governor Rick Perry of Texas - Got To Love And Appreciate Him And His Staff

A citizen who had a concern about a nursing home in Texas reached out to me for assistance - they needed information about a particular nursing home located in the state. I called Governor Perry's office for help in contacting the appropriate agency and the person I spoke with in his office, Norma, was OUTSTANDING! She provided professional - warm and friendly service to me. I was very impressed with her and her phone demeanor.

The citizens of Texas should be very pleased to have Governor Perry and his dedicated professional staff working to represent them as well as to assist them with their issues,  concerns and questions.

PA Department of Probation and Parole - Good People Doing A Great Job

I am so impressed with the good and dedicated people who work at the PA Department of Probation and Parole. Their job is a difficult job, an often times thankless job, and a dangerous job for many of the employees who serve the citizens of our Commonwealth in that agency.

I want to thank the people who assisted an individual with a need that they had that related to their parole. I am very grateful for the interest and consideration that was shown on behalf of the individual and his family.

Dell Computers Delivers Dynamite Customer Service (When given the opportunity to)

I was made aware of a consumer complaint about Dell customer service so I reached out to the executives at Dell Computers on behalf of the consumer. Within a couple of hours I received a personal (not automated) email response that the matter would be investigated and then the next day I received a follow up call from a representative of the company concerning the consumer's complaint. Now I call that 5***** service. OUTSTANDING! Dell Computers delivers DYNOMITE customer service in my book!

Social Security Administration Delivers Outstanding Service Again

A consumer reached out to me regarding some questions she had about her disability claim. I contacted the Social Security Administration Public Inquiries Office to advocate on her behalf and spoke with a couple of individuals about her question and got the answers I needed so that I could help her. One of the gentlemen called me back personally the same day I called the headquarters to speak with me about my question and how I might best be able to help the consumer with her claim. I was impressed with his demeanor and with his desire to help me.

Whether I have had to communicate with caseworkers at our local office in Scranton PA, or with caseworkers at other state SSA offices, or with members of the administration at the SSA headquarters I have always received prompt, professional, courteous, and outstanding service. As far as I am concerned the good people serving the citizens at the SSA deserve 5***** for the work that they do.

DirecTV Resolves Another Consumer's Complaint

I received an email today from another consumer that I had helped
regarding a complaint with DirecTV. The consumer's complaint was
resolved to their satisfaction. 5***** and OUTSTANDING JOB to
all the wonderful people at DirecTV who helped make the satisfactory
resolution possible!

Phone: (310) 535-5000 Customer's name and address (Deleted to protect their privacy This screen displays the details of a specific complaint, with the colored hint indicating the complaint’s current processing status and available actions, if any. Complaint Complaint Classification:    Ad Practices Complaint Description - Posted 6/17/2008 The DirecTV satellite receiver I had had since 05 July 2003 ceased to function in January 2008, but fulfilled its original 12 month contractual obligation. Since my DirecTV service is bundled with Qwest phone/broadband service, I contacted Qwest with the issue. I was transferred to a DirecTV customer service representative. On 22 Jan 2008, DirecTV sent me a replacement receiver; the older non-functioning receiver was not to be returned. A few days later, the replacement receiver & remote control arrived with an operations manual (and nothing more); from a sticker and surface mares, the box was a previously used unit. DirecTV monthly fees were periodically raised from $34 to $55 to exceed my budget. The week of 09 Jun 08 I contacted DirecTV via Qwest to terminate DirecTV service. The service was terminated. On 16 Jun 08, I received a DirecTV bill for $260 alleging I had terminated the 2 year contract early. The bill also informs me that if I fail to return the equipment, I will be charged a "non-returned equipment" fee. At no time was I aware that receiving a replacement box would obligate me to a 2 year contract. As a loyal, consistently paying customer for 5+ years, this is an unethical business practice. 16 Jun 2008, I contacted DirecTV by phone. I voiced my complaint to 3 managers, each of higher rank. The last,"R" would not reverse the charge and would not provide me a name to whom I should address a letter of dispute; she abruptly hung up on me. Complaint Summary Upon cancellation of DirecTV service, I received a bill for $260.00 that stated that I was being penalized for "early termination" of a contract. Resolution Sought I want DirecTV to 1) negate the fraudulent $260 "early contract termination" charge, 2) forward a "0" balance due statement to me, 3) abandon this (and all) unethical business practices and policies, 4) initiate policies that REWARD loyal customers instead of penalizing them, and 5) empower customer services managers to "serve the customer." Additional Information Date Problem First Occurred:    6/16/2008 Product or Service:  DirecTV service is inconsistent at best. Model Name or Number:  D11-500C-R Date Purchased:  6/16/2008 Order Number:    Amount Paid:  $260.00
